Eco Girl is the second book in a collection about sustainability. It follows the very successful Astro Girl, which was about gender and giving young people the space to dream. The publishers wanted a follow up, but Astro Girl is a very complete story that is hard to follow! So the plan became centred around the themes that affect children, or future adults. Eventually each of the books will have its own follow up.
The story is about Eve, a girl who loves the forest and Baobab trees in particular, and how she learns that with some patience she can become one with nature. The approach was to create a story strong enough to stand alone yet still be part of a bigger picture.

The end papers of the book set the tone.

I painted the images with acrylic, something which really helps them communicate more directly with young children

Once painted, they were moved to photoshop for some colour adjustments.
